The ne= xt payment of $200 was made by 29 Apr 08.&nbs= p; We can still accept more interested scouts if they decide ASAP.= b> We have a reservation to go to Nor= thern Tier this summer (2008). Our arrival date is 12 Aug 2008 at the Sommers Base near Ely, Mn. We have confirmed this reser= vation by submitting $1300 non-refundable deposit on 1 Apr 2008 and $1958 by 1 May 08. Northern Tier is the BSA = high adventure canoe base headquartered near Ely, Mn with bases there and in Canada at Atikokan and Bissett. We will depart on 9 Aug 08 and return= on 21 or 22 Aug 08. Scouts must = be 14 and first class and Canoeing Merit Badge is desired. All participants must be swimmers = and have high adventure physicals. All adults must be Youth Protection certified.= The total cost will be around $600 per participant. This will include lodging and transportation to/from Northern Tier and the cost of Northern Tier. Food during transition and any sou= venirs or other purchases along the way will be out of pocket. This is our only high adventure this year and most of our members have never been to Northern Tier. For some this will comp= lete the trilogy of BSA high adventure camps, something very few scouts or scouters = get to do during their lifetimes. Let’s make the best or this opportunity now. The cost is $40 per person per day= for the trek ($240), $420 for the training week, and the cost of transportation, lodging and food getting there and back.&n= bsp; The minimum crew size is 6 and maximum is 12. We have 4 currently signed up. So, we n= eed at least two more to make this happen. Attendees are required to have a Philmont high adventure physic= al. We can plan our trek to be fairly leisurely anywhere within Philmont. Anyone interested in the trek must cont= act me ASAP and pay $100 deposit to Troop 71 through Carl Herting, our treasurer. If you also want t= o stay and attend the PTC you need to contact Tecumseh Council ASAP and have them = put you on the PTC invite list. I= have the schedule of 2008 course offerings for PTC. It is important that we act on thi= s now, since the fall season at Philmont may fill quickly. POC is Ray Blowers, phone: (937) 429-2191, E-mail: ray.blowers@done= t.com.

Crew Stuff Article: Kodiak Training
Kodiak is a =
National
Venture Youth Leadership Training program for youth ages 14 - 21. Kod=
iak
is based on 5 leadership principles that can be used in all situations.&nbs=
p;
Leadership principles are presented, and then exercises are given to help
demonstrate the principles and reinforce the concepts. The venue is
outdoors with high adventure activities where the leadership principles can=
be
demonstrated. Not only is the informative but it is a FUN course.
Tecumseh Council is offering this National program over a two weekend perio=
d;
April 18-19-20, and April 25-26-27, 2008. Friday nights will start at
6:00. A bonus is getting to meet and work with other Venture Crew mem=
bers
throughout Tecumseh Council. Adult leaders are welcome to attend as
well. The principles can then be incorporated into your Venture Crew
activities throughout the year. This is highly recommended for your
Venture Crew officers to take. VLSC should have been taken prior to t=
his
course. Sign up is at the Tecumseh Council office, cost is $110 per
person, includes all fees, food, and camping.
