| Miscellaneous Notes: | One of Troop 71’s greatest strengths is the wide range of
activities offered throughout the year. The foundation of this effort
is laid at Family Camp. Troop 71 Family Camp is great time for scouts and
their families to participate in some fun activities (archery/rifle/shotgun
ranges, climbing tower), enjoy a summer troop court of honor and participate
in planning for next years annual schedule. It is a great opportunity to get
to know one another. In the past parents have each generously offered to
coordinate and lead one activity during the year. This planning of the
annual schedule is extremely important to the quality of Troop 71
activities. The Scouts have voted on a list of activities they would like to do in the coming year. We look at the council events already scheduled (spring and fall camporee, Cub Scout Bash, Klondike, etc.) and we discuss the events that are needed to sustain the troop (summer and family camps). We look for a primary and a secondary adult activity leader for each of these events. The system works best if a secondary activity leader assists the primary leader and becomes familiar with the activity details so they can be the primary leader of the activity the following year. Family Camp will be held this year at Camp Birch, August 27-29, 2010. Camping will again be in the Baden Powell site. Camping is by families, not patrols. At the Cargill Pavilion just after lunch we will have a troop court of honor followed by the popcorn kickoff. Next will be the planning session. We strongly ask that each family please have one adult represented at this planning meeting. Please be sure to bring your personal planning calendars. We will share an evening meal together followed by desserts and a campfire. Please bring a desert to share.. |
