| Event Description | The troop is planning a whitewater rafting outing for July 2011. The outing consists of two separate trips. Scouts and adults may participate in either or both. The first on Saturday is a trip down the Class I/II Hiwassee River in Tennessee. The Hiwassee River is suitable for anyone who is classified as a swimmer. Participants may choose from one person kayaks, one person inflatable kayaks, two person inflatable kayaks (great fun for younger scouts) and rafts. The inflatable kayaks are almost impossible to tip over. On Sunday more experienced scouts may try Ocoee whitewater rafting. The Ocoee was the site of the 1996 Olympics whitewater events and is viewed as one of the premier whitewater rivers in the country if not the world. The Ocoee is rated as almost continuous Class III/IV. See links below for additional information. Note that the rivers are close to Chattanooga which offers many family activities such as the Tennessee Aquarium, Rock City, and Raccoon Mountain (overnight caving). |
