Event Description Annual Troop 71 event where folks get rid of (unwanted) stuff to raise funds for their own Scouts' account(s).  The event is held primarily in the Scout Hut, with larger items displayed on the parking lot of Aley United Methodist Church.

Towards the end of the rummage sale, unsold items are "marked down" to half price.  Unsold items at the end of the rummage sale are donated to charity (usually, Goodwill because they're close and will pick-up).  The exception is when an item is marked with an "X" -- preferably a red X -- to signify that the item should not be marked down to half price or donated to charity if unsold.

For the Scout to obtain credit for items sold, at least one adult from each participating scout’s family must work a 3-hour shift.

Information
  • Each item is to be priced BEFORE bringing to the Scout Hut on Thursday (in $0.25 increments only!)
  • Garage sale stickers sometimes fall off, if your tag is not secure, the money will be credited to the Troop 71 account (masking tape and file labels are good)
  • Mark sizes on tag for clarity
  • Mark each item with scouts 3 initials (ex: John Adams Smith=JAS)
  • If item is not to go ½ price or to charity on Saturday
    • Mark item with a red X
    • Make it VERY visible
    • PLAN TO PICK UP RED X ITEMS AT NOON ON SATURDAY OR THE ITEMS WILL GO TO SALE AND CHARITY
  • Baked goods are acceptable please mark with initials and price
  • Donations will be accepted and will go to Troop 71’s advertising costs
  • For scout to receive credit for items sold, one or more adults from each participating scout’s family must "cover" a 3-hour shift during the rummage sale (e.g., one adult for 3 hours or two adults, 1.5 hours each or three adults, 1 hour each)
