Who: Open to scouts and adult scout volunteers! When: January 19-21, 3013 … Sat-Mon Where: Cave Event HQ: Levi Jackson State Park Why: WILD Caving adventures are awesome and so is the food! Cave Event Organizers: Dawn and Phil Mumford and Yeti Martin Payment and Registration Due by: preferred by Dec 18th and no later than Dec. 31st, 2012 My name is Dawn MD Mumford and I am the POC from BSA Troop 71 for the 2013 Caving Trip. You may remember me shadowing Dave Bramlage for the last 2 Caving Events… in the kitchen at Levi Jackson State Park Dining Hall. Yeti from Troop #46 is replacing Steve Robinson as the cave trip organizer. Our planning committee met in October and discussed our plans for our next Caving Event. Troop 71’s Caving Event is scheduled for Martin Luther King weekend on January 19-21, 2013. We are keeping the event cost per person at $40; however, we do want to make certain we take measures to keep our costs down. Troop 71 has made several changes starting this year. In order to help us better plan this event, payments from all troops are best received by Dec 18th and must be received by December 31, 2012. We expect this event to fill up quickly! We will confirm registrations as payments are received until this event is full or until Dec 31st. If you need to cancel part or all of your registration, we need all cancelation requests for full refund to be emailed to me and copied to Yeti no later than 5 pm January 9, 2013. After 5pm Jan 9th, your $40.00 fee per person will have been spent to cover our event costs and we will not be able to process any refunds at that point. Please make your check(s) payable to BSA Troop 71 and send them to me. If possible, I prefer you send one check from your scout unit. For your convenience, my address is provided at the bottom of this email. Dependent on finding new cave trip leaders: Please be aware, that for every 8 or more people planning to attend this caving weekend, … we NEED more cave trip leaders to make this event successful. Please let Dawn and Yeti know if you have any experienced “wild cavers” that are willing to co-lead a cave trip. Returning cavers are encouraged to work towards helping lead a cave trip. Yeti is hoping to offer a cave leader training in the summer 2013. Please email him directly if you have any questions about co-leading a cave trip at our annual caving event. 3 Attachments: I am attaching the updated Caver Registration List form, Caving Info sheet, and Activity Consent form. Please complete the registration form on your computer and email it to both Yeti and I at yetism@embarqmail.com and PMUMFORD@woh.rr.com. Mail me your payment at 2919 Crone Rd, Dayton, 45434 [include your Scout Unit # on the check memo.] You must turn in current BSA physical form with your consent form. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by email PMUMFORD@woh.rr.com. ADDITIONAL NOTES: 1. Consent forms are needed for all participants under age 18. 2. In addition to the cost of the trip ($40) your scout will need to bring some money for lunches on the way down and back. $10 should be plenty. 3. Your scout will need to have a sack lunch for the Sunday trips into the caves. Levi Jackson has refrigerators for keeping them cool. 4. Please make sure that your scout is prepared for cold weather!! The cabins that we stay in are unheated, so prepare accordingly. Please also remember that the caves always stay an average of 55 degrees so don't overdress when going into the caves. 5. All 2nd and 3rd year cave trip participants should bring compasses to be trained on how to read a cave map and get through a cave. This will be great training to build our future cave leaders. 6. Please review the information on the website, especially the equipment checklist and make sure that you have covered at least the minimum requirements. |
